Dear Molly Beloveds!
Happy Holidays from Team Raise Hell! Thank you SO much for your great and continued support of Raise Hell: The Life & Times of Molly Ivins.
In the run up to the election the Raise Hell Facebook page exploded with your fantastic and enthusiastic responses to our posts of Molly quotes and images. Every one of us on Team Raise Hell was thrilled with the show of love for Molly and support for the film. We feel now more than ever Molly’s voice, humor and joie de vivre are truly needed.
Here is the low down – it ain’t done yet. Our production team is small and we all wear a variety of hats. Janice, our director is editing to get it to a “rough cut”. Once that is done, we will follow up with PBS, Showtime and other broadcast outlets that have expressed interest, and go out and get the remaining money we need to finish.
Other news: our website will be revamped in the first quarter of 2017 and a news page will be added so that we can post timely and frequent updates.
Donations continue to come in – THANK YOU! We really appreciate that. So if you’d like to throw a little more cheer (it's tax deductible y'all) to Raise Hell this holiday you can do so here: http://www.documentary.org/film/raise-hell
We know that this is not the update that y’all hoped for but the reality of independently funded and created documentaries is that they are challenging to make. We are hoping that come early 2018 Raise Hell will be screening at your local metroplex!
Thank you again for being a part of this ever-expanding journey, bringing Molly Ivins back to the people!
A very Molly and Jolly Holiday season to all.

With the money we raised, we were able to film 10 more interviews bringing our total to 20 people. All along the way Molly’s family, friends and colleagues were incredibly generous with their time. They opened their hearts and shared d4eeply about Molly with lots of great stories, laughs and tears. We were bequeathed a treasure trove of personal photos, slides and videos that we are madly scanning. While Janice was in Texas, she and Betsy spent time in The Dolph Briscoe Archives researching Molly’s papers and mementos. Lots of great gems were unearthed and there’s a mountain more to dig through.
The generosity of spirit and support for the project is truly something else. On her last road trip through Texas and New Mexico, Janice and her cameraman, Dave Eberts were fed and offered beds many a night by a host of Molly’s inner circle and family. Honestly, the ease with which this has come together is astounding.
On a sad note, Molly's beloved brother, Andy Ivins, passed away in mid-November just weeks after our interview with him. Janice and Dave got great footage of Andy, his wife Carla and their daughter Darby at the ranch Molly dearly loved and owned with them. Andy & Carla were generous with their time and their Texas hospitality to Janice, Dave and Betsy, who spent most of two days with them. We are beyond grateful that we were able to film Andy at the Ivins ranch sharing some incredibly deep personal insights into his sister and their lives growing up.
It is our good fortune (and very encouraging) that Sundance Productions (SP) has come on board as Executive Producer for Raise Hell. Additionally two Academy Award winners joined the Raise Hell team: writer, Mark Monroe, and editor, Kate Amend. Mark wrote the 2010 Academy Award winning documentary, The Cove. Kate Amend edited the Academy Award winning documentaries, The Long Way Home (1998), and Into The Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport (2001).
Did you miss getting to a fundraiser? Want to go again or know others that need to see what we are up to and desperately miss Molly’s Ivins’ voice and wit? You got a good shot to RAISE HELL with us: January in Austin, February in Los Angeles, March in New York City and Houston in late spring. An Austin Final Friday is in the planning stages for January 31st.
Lastly, we were just awarded the Roy Dean Grant, which is a cash and in-kind film production services prize.
Let’s get out there and Raise Hell Y’all…
